Take a look at how people used to live in one of the most densely populated and largely ungoverned settlements in history, located in Kowloon, Hong Kong.
This chaotic maze of interconnected buildings housed over 30,000 residents within just 6.4 acres, creating an incredibly compact and bustling environment. Narrow alleyways, stacked apartments, and makeshift structures defined daily life, with little regulation or formal infrastructure. Despite the apparent disorder, the community was vibrant, complete with schools, businesses, and even clinics operating within the tight space. The Walled City was both fascinating and overwhelming, offering a glimpse into human adaptability in extreme conditions. Though it was demolished in the 1990s, its memory remains a powerful example of urban resilience.
