Michigan artist David Zinn uses chalk to create magical street art, turning cracks, stains, and curbs into lively scenes filled with cheerful creatures. His work is temporary, washed away by rain, leaving only smiles from those who pass by.
Zinn draws spontaneously, without planning, allowing the surface to inspire the story. “It’s much easier to draw something that just begs to be drawn,” he says. His characters, Sluggo the green monster, Philomena the flying pig, and others seem to come straight from the streets themselves.
The fleeting nature of his art makes it captivating. “When art has no future, only the present remains,” he explains. He shares this present moment with everyone who happens upon his drawings.
