The Corbin Sparrow, introduced in 1999 by its creator Mike Corbin, was designed as a simple and efficient electric car for commuting. This single-seater, three-wheeled vehicle features a 26 hp electric motor with 135 Nm of torque. Despite its small size, smaller than a Smart ForTwo, it can accelerate to 120 km/h and travel up to 80 km on a front-mounted battery.
The Sparrow, though basic, includes power windows and a CD player with in-seat speakers. Its 13-inch wheels are equipped with Wilwood brakes, typically found on sports cars. However, the project struggled due to American drivers’ lack of interest in such vehicles, leading to the company’s bankruptcy in 2003 after producing around 300 units.
The auctioned Sparrow, stored at the Petersen Automotive Museum, is noted to be non-operational despite only 2,700 kilometers of usage. The seller mentions that replacing the power unit could restore its functionality for future use.
