Self-Propelled Coffin Car Turns Heads (20 photos)

A self-propelled coffin has been sold on Bring a Trailer for $28,750. This custom-built vehicle, powered by a V8 engine and an automatic transmission, is even street-legal.

Built on Long Island between 2008 and 2010, it features a fiberglass coffin body mounted on a handmade steel chassis. The driver sits at the back, with the differential positioned under the knees.

At its core is a Chevrolet Small Block V8 with a carburetor, paired with an automatic gearbox. The bronze-painted fuel tank sits up front, blending into the design. A “tombstone” hood ornament, medieval-style lights, and a distinctive aesthetic complete the look.

Registered in New York as a 1928 Ford, it comes with a license plate and a collection of 50 awards from various car shows and competitions.
